A note from the School Nurse:
As you may have heard on the news, flu season is in full swing and we are experiencing an increase in illness at LES. Please continue to stress to your children that frequent hand washing and covering your cough are among the best preventions of illness.  The CDC has indicated it’s not too late to receive a flu vaccination. If you or your child haven’t received the vaccination, you may want to consult with your doctor to see if they recommend doing so. Blue Valley School District follows the recommendations of the Johnson County Health Department with regard to exclusion from school.  If your child is ill, they should not return to school until they have been fever free (less than 100 degrees), diarhea free and vomit free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.  Feel free to call the school nurse at 239-6613 with any questions you may have. Thank you for your assistance with keeping our school community healthy!

Winter MAP testing
We do selective MAP testing for students in January.  There is not a district expectation that all students be assessed in the winter.  All students were tested in the fall and all students will be tested again in the spring.
Our guidelines at LES for selecting students to be assessed in the winter are as follows:
•        Students who are new or were new to LES in the fall, 2012
•        Students who scored significantly lower in the fall 2012, than they scored in the spring 2011
•        Students who receive additional help in reading or math
•        Teacher discretion
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
