September 24-28

Reading: This week we are continuing to read the story Scaredy Squirrel. We are working on the skills determining important information, author’s purpose and prefixes that mean not.

Writer’s Workshop: This week we will begin working through the writing process on our Candy Bar Story. We will begin with prewriting and drafting.

Math: We are into Unit 3 now on Multiplication. We are really working hard on the concept of multiplication and not just memorizing the facts. We will also work on multiplication story problems this week.  

Science: This week we are continuing our unit on Matter. We will have the students rotate to all three classrooms for three different matter experiments this week!

Reading: This week we are reading the story Scaredy Squirrel. We are working on the skills determining important information, author’s purpose and prefixes that mean not.

Writer’s Workshop: We are responding to reading in our writing. We are making text to self connections and writing about those!

Math: This week we are working on number sense with money and will begin Unit 3. We will work on collecting data, graphing, and multiplication word problems.

Science: This week we are continuing our unit on Matter. We will work on an experiment with Gummy Bears and Gobstoppers.

Weekly News

September 10-14

Reading: This week we are continuing our unit in LEAD 21 on Changes. The students are beginning an inquiry process and learning about determining important information. We are also learning about author’s purpose.

Writer’s Workshop: We are continuing to learn about the writing process this week. We are also generating questions for our Inquiry Project.

Math: We are working on subtraction fact strategies this week. We want to be able to subtract quickly and proficiently! We are also working on a game called “spinning differences”.

Science: This week we are jumping into matter! We will begin learning some basics such as physical and chemical changes.

Important Dates:

          Tuesday 9/11- Early Dismissal
          Thursday 9/13- Powerdrill Due
